Opposites: Illustration Friday

One thing I have always admitted, is that painting is not my best skill. I have always faired better with pencil. This is the first painting I have completed since I was in high school, and I don't know why, but I just felt like painting this time. It also didn't help that the paints are very old as well, and I had a difficult time with them. I used acrylics, and I have to say the thing I hate most about painting is when the paint dries too fast, and I cannot blend the colors. I guess I will have to go out and get some oil paints.

I have since gone back and tried to fix the backround. It seems it did not get any easier the second time around, but at least it looks more blended now. The picture at the top is the revised version.

I think it turned out quite nice! I agree , acrylic is hard...because it dries too fast. And I just plain suck with oils, although I love them. Guess that's why I used watercolors!

Applause,,,

I don't get acrylics yet either; I consider them glorified poster paints; and I think galleries take them more then other mediums because they are less likely to get damaged.

for not painting very often with acrylics the painting looks good to me !
i'm not good at painting either, but it's fun ! i think i would prefer acrylics over oils cause it's less complicated. but i only painted with oil color once so i don't really know much about it :)

Wonderful idea and beautiful work, with delicious color and quite realistic-these two are always in battle mode with me. Fine piece of work!

During summer here in Portugal acrilycs dry realy fast, so some people use an acrilyc medium that mixed whit paint slows down that process. But when I use acrilys I prefer that they dry faster.
Anyway, your work looks fine to me!

yes, we definitely were on the same page with this one! I really like yours though. It's much more organic and moody than mine. Very nice! I love your other work as well, and you have awesome taste in movies:)

Very clever.
I like the simplicity of the concept. And you execution seems fine.
And yes, brains rock indeed. In the future they'll be what skulls are today, and what drips were last year.

Thanks to everyone for the nice comments and tips. I was not even sure what I was going to do for the subject, and then just as I was at my breaking point from a lot of stuff going on ( stupid family drama bull$#*@) this idea popped into my head.

Very nice take on the topic. Any ideas yet for "clean"?

Collin,
No ideas for clean yet. There were probably less than a handful of topics where I could get an idea right off the bat...other than that, it usually takes me until like 2-3 days before deadline to come up with an idea, and even then, I don't always get it done :)

Wow,also. This is awesome. Having just seen the Body World exhibit here in Houston I am impressed. I love working with acrylics and you've done an admirable job.
