Play : Illustration Friday : Little League
My second watercolor painting, and I think maybe this one turned out a little better than the first. I decided to pay a tribute to all the Little League players around the world, now that the summer and the season is winding down. I used ink and watercolor. I thought maybe the ink would help the players stand out against the backround. I think maybe it's not proper or traditional procedure to use ink with the watercolor, but then again, I never was one to follow the rules :)

great, i love your works! i like the way you put dynamic effect on the blured ball and the sand.
This is lovely!
It looks great, and I for one am a big fan of ink and watercolor. A lot of my watercolors start with pencil sketches, and then after painting I go back with ink. However, I try to use the ink to bring out the effects of the water color, more than the underdrawing. Great piece. Follow your own rules, definately.
:)=
This is wonderful. You captured (oops that was last weeks word) the players perfectly.
I think you should use the technique that works best for you.
8^)
It's just great and perfect for play. I use anything I want with watercolor to get the results I want.
Really a great watercolor painting! There's nothing says you can't use pen and ink and watercolor, it's called mixed media. For your second watercolor, you really have it down. I like it.
Great watercolor -- ESPECIALLY for just a second one! Great!
wow if this is just ur 2nd one cant wait to see when u been doing it awhile. this is really nicely done. hope to see more
This is BEAUTIFUL!!! If there are rules, I am really glad you broke them if this is the end result! STUNNING!!! I love Little league, it is the best baseball around!
very nice! I was just playing or trying to play catch with my 2 year old and his little mitt. I like the ink and watercolor.
lovely subject beautifully captured and just your second wc - whooo! fantastic!
Lovely action ...you're talented!
Nice done. I love the colors.
great action shot - the lines increase the feeling that its a frozen moment in time
Wow! I think this is really great :) And you know what, I too use ink with watercolour and don't really care whether it's the right thing to do or not! :D Who cares, especially when it turn out as great as yours!
I can feel the action, the mood of the player in this piece.
Cheerfully boys - captured in just that moment before the catch and after the fall - you've made the movement very well - great!
cool work.
Wow what fantastic detail! I love the lines and the coloring. Great illustration for the topic!
Wonderful work. Ink definitely worked out great.
The only real danger with the ink is that it often is dye-based and has an extremely poor lightfastness rating (ie: will fade fast). This picture is a really assured and professional piece of work!
Wow! Wonderful illustration ~ definitely not easy to capture this kind of scene in watercolors. Hats off to you!!
I wanted to say thanks to everyone for the nice comments! I purchased a Reeve's starter set from the Blick online site, it was $24.95 for 12 tubes of paint, 5 brushes, a pencil, knife, 3 watercolor boards and a tabletop easel- I didn't want to start out with expensive paints being a first timer, in case it didn't work out well. I was so excited to try them out that I finished this weeks topic earlier than I normally would. I guess if I got one good painting from it, then I got my money's worth! Thanks again!
Well done! :-)
Beautiufl!!! so much detail!
fantastic work! i'm so impressed at your skills! *inspired* =)
*wistful sigh* What a lovely american classic. Thanks for sharing with us, it's very cool to get to see your outstanding progression.
It sure works for me. I love this little corner of your mind! :o) Keep up the good work.
