Illustration Friday: Visitors

For this week's topic, I am posting a collaborative piece by me and my cousin Mike. I did an original ink/watercolor seascape painting, and he added some stuff and applied some "magic" to it...that's what I call it, because I have no clue what program he used or how he did it ( I don't know the first thing about digital art)....I just know that I like the results.

Illustration Friday: Captain : Kenpachi Zaraki

Ok, I'm really late this week....I got this far by 9:20 a.m. on Friday, and the Captain subject had already been closed...but I'm going to post this anyway.

I chose Captain Kenpachi Zaraki -11 division - a favorite character from an awesome manga/anime series called Bleach - by Tite Kubo. This is a licensed character, and it is clearly FAN art drawn from reference....but when I thought about the Captain topic...this was the first thing that came to mind.

I was originally going to do a complete red wash with watercolor over the ink drawing...I still might do that, but I just started out way to late on the project. I will post what i have done so far. 11 x 14 , Ink on 140 lb. watercolor paper.

Safe : Illustration Friday

This week's challenge was almost another last minute thing for me. I finished this one a bit sooner than the last one I completed. This was sort of a combination of two ideas....I started with one idea, that didn't seem to go the way I wanted....then it turned into another idea......and then it ended up being a blend of the two. Yes.......you are seeing things correctly.....it IS a baby in the womb with a flashlight and blanket...LOL.
I decided to go with graphite this week. I also decided to create a separate blog for the IF work, so this is the first one posted to the new blog.

Match: Illustration Friday: Buck Match

Ok, I know this picture is not as detailed as some of my other work, but I did this at the last minute. I could not think of an idea that I wanted to do for sure until the last minute, and I had family visiting from out of town this week, so I did not have much time to spend on the project. I did this painting, another watercolor, in one hour, which is highly unusual for me, as I like to take my time and get the shading and details right. But, I ran out of time to do that, so I will have to submit this as is. I can get back to the details later on I guess. As late as I am submitting this, I'm not even sure if anyone will see it, but at least I can say I tried.

Play : Illustration Friday : Little League

My second watercolor painting, and I think maybe this one turned out a little better than the first. I decided to pay a tribute to all the Little League players around the world, now that the summer and the season is winding down. I used ink and watercolor. I thought maybe the ink would help the players stand out against the backround. I think maybe it's not proper or traditional procedure to use ink with the watercolor, but then again, I never was one to follow the rules :)

Opposites: Illustration Friday

One thing I have always admitted, is that painting is not my best skill. I have always faired better with pencil. This is the first painting I have completed since I was in high school, and I don't know why, but I just felt like painting this time. It also didn't help that the paints are very old as well, and I had a difficult time with them. I used acrylics, and I have to say the thing I hate most about painting is when the paint dries too fast, and I cannot blend the colors. I guess I will have to go out and get some oil paints.

I have since gone back and tried to fix the backround. It seems it did not get any easier the second time around, but at least it looks more blended now. The picture at the top is the revised version.
